Save Your Local DVLA Office!

The Department for Transport are proposing to close all 39 of its DVLA Local Offices some time in 2013.

The proposal is out to public consultation until March 2012, but staff at our local office in Brighton have already been told that they will be closing towards the end of this year.  Constables Mobility strongly opposes this proposal and feels that there is strong support from across the automotive industry for keeping some, if not all, of the offices open.

There will be an adverse effect on converters such as Constables and also car dealerships nationwide if local offices close.  If this happens, everything will have to go through Swansea which could cause delivery delays resulting in customer dissatisfaction due to the inconvenience caused.  We already know that trying to get through Swansea’s call handling system is problematic, and with such an increase in workload we can only presume that everything will take longer, including the registration process.

If you recognise the problems that closure of the offices will cause and feel as strongly as we do, follow the link to the Government’s e-petition site where you can sign an online petition asking the Department of Transport to re-consider.

Once you have signed the petition, don’t keep it to yourself – pass it on to as many friends, relatives and colleagues and ask them to do the same!

If 100,000 people sign the petition, the government are obliged to discuss the matter in Parliament.  It may sound like a big ask, but the UK employs over 600,000 people in automotive manufacture, service and sales, not to mention the general public.

We thank you in anticipation of your support.
