David Constable, founder and owner of Constables
Mobility, has been converting vehicles for wheelchair
users since the early 1980s when he and a colleague
developed the world famous
Carchair
system.
This design innovation provided wheelchair users with
upfront travel within a standard production motor
vehicle. During the mid 1980s the company, which was
then known as Carchair, added
rear entry wheelchair accessible
conversions
to its product portfolio to offer wheelchair users a
choice of upfront or rear travel.
1987
Constables Mobility were the first company in the
world to crash-test a wheelchair vehicle.
